Cerebrospinal Fluid Analysis in a Case of Cerebral Demyelination after mRNA Vaccine
In a study of one patient, after mRNA vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, natural killer cells and activated CD8+ T cells in their cerebrospinal fluid were more cytotoxic than in healthy controls. SARS-CoV-2 spike-specific CD8+ T cells were also found. Following corticosteroid treatment, these cells decreased in peripheral blood alongside clinical improvement and lesion size reduction.

Why it matters
These findings suggest immune cell activation in cerebrospinal fluid post-vaccination, which could relate to demyelination, but causation cannot be established from a single case.
What this does not prove
This study is a single case, limiting the ability to draw broad conclusions about the relationship between vaccination and demyelination.
