Observational Study of Plasma Neurofilament Light Chain in Humans with Neurodegenerative Conditions
In a study of 383 individuals, including healthy controls and patients with neurodegenerative diseases, the plasma neurofilament light chain (NfL) was measured using Simoa and Lumipulse techniques. High concordance was found between the two methods (ρ=0.90), with significant correlations between plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) NfL measurements (ρ=0.72 for Simoa; ρ=0.77 for Lumipulse).

Why it matters
These findings suggest that plasma NfL can reliably indicate neurodegenerative disease and its correlation with CSF NfL adds to its potential utility as a biomarker for assessing neurological conditions.
What this does not prove
This study is observational and does not define a primary endpoint, limiting its ability to draw causal conclusions about NfL's role in disease progression or diagnosis.
